Kovar Alloy
In This Section
Kovar® material is a metal alloy made from a blend of iron, nickel, and cobalt. Known for its controlled thermal expansion properties, Kovar maintains its structural integrity and forms reliable seals and connections with glass and ceramic materials. Often used for hermetic seals, Kovar components are excellent for use in high-performance applications in aerospace, electronics, and semiconductor industries.
At Hudson Technologies, we perform precision Kovar metal stamping to create custom components for use in a wide array of industries. Contact us for more information and to begin your order today.
What is Kovar Material?
Kovar’s primary element is iron, with the addition of nickel and cobalt. This makes Kovar a reliable material in high-temperature applications. Additionally, Kovar components can expand and contract in a similar manner to glass, without compromising their structural integrity. One of the most popular applications of Kovar metal is to create hermetic seals in glass-to-metal or ceramic-to-metal applications.
Though Kovar is more expensive than standard metals like aluminum or steel, its stability and durability for creating seals and strong components make it an excellent solution for demanding applications.
