Hudson Technologies is proud to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of JSJ Corporation, our parent company. JSJ has spent the last century growing its reputation as a family-owned growth firm and holding company with a diverse portfolio of businesses (like ours) that provide engineered solutions around the world. We look forward to helping them make the next 100 years just as successful as the first.

A Brief History of JSJ

In December 1919, A.E. Jacobson and Paul A. Johnson, co-owners of the newly purchased Grand Haven Brass Foundry, woke to discover the factory ablaze. A flying spark had landed on an unused lint box, creating a catastrophic fire that destroyed the business.

The partners thought they were ruined—until they met B.P. Sherwood, a notable investor at the Grand Haven State Bank. Sherwood’s bank had recently learned of the vacant Eagle Ottawa Cut Sole Plant near the brass foundry site, and Sherwood helped finance the partners’ acquisition of the unused plant.

Within days, Jacobson and Johnson had their new factory up and running—and by January 1920 had reached the production volumes of their previous foundry. Jacobson and Johnson appreciated and respected the early partnership with Sherwood, so much so that they began working on several projects together—culminating the in the official formation of JSJ Corporation in 1970.

Remarkably, the sign from the original Grand Haven Brass Foundry survived the 1919 blaze, and still proudly hangs in JSJ’s headquarters. The old sign serves as a reminder of JSJ’s history and resiliency as it’s grown from its humble roots to a network of facilities around the world, of which Hudson Technologies is proud to be a part.

JSJ’s Core Values

JSJ and its subsidiaries strive to promote four core values, which are reflected in the quality of our products and the relationships with our clients:

  • Earn trust
  • Learn by doing
  • Work together
  • Steward our legacy

The MeStrong 5K

In accordance with the company’s values, Hudson and JSJ partnered with the Florida charity MESTRONG to help Central Floridians and their families in the battle against cancer. Through Hudson’s Ormond Beach, Fla., facility, we donated $15,000 to MESTRONG as part of a community giving campaign JSJ initiated to celebrate 100 years in business. Hudson employees also participated in the MESTRONG 5K that took place Feb. 2 in Deland, Fla.

The Next Century at JSJ

JSJ Corporation and its portfolio companies continue to pride themselves on being valuable partners in the communities where they operate. With businesses spread across Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida, and locations in China and Mexico, the JSJ family of companies continues to grow its reputation nationally and globally. We want to thank JSJ for its continued support over the years, as we look to make the next century a success!
